Who We Are

The Inspectorate is a three-member team established on 26 July 2006 in accordance with Part 5 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005.

The Chief Inspector is Kathleen O’Toole. The other team members are Deputy Chief Inspectors Robert Olson and Gwen Boniface.

Prior to appointment to the Inspectorate, the Chief Inspector and Deputy Chief Inspectors accumulated a wealth of policing experience in North America. They all have reputations for driving strategic change and police reform. Each headed a significant police service.

The Inspectorate employs a capable staff of Irish civil servants. From time to time, the Inspectorate also engages police staff from outside the State and other technical experts as necessary to assist with individual inspections.
