    The Garda Inspectorate is shocked at the tragic death of Garda Tony Golden who lost his life yesterday in the line of duty. On behalf of the Inspectorate, the Chief Inspector wishes to extend his deepest sympathies to his family, friends, colleagues and all members and staff of the Garda Síochána at this very sad time. 11 October 2015

    On the 14 January 2015, the Chief Inspector and two Deputy Chief Inspectors appeared before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality in relation to the Crime Investigation Report.     On 7 April 2014, the Minister for Justice and Equality revised the terms of reference for the review of the Garda Siochana provided for under the Haddington Road Agreement. The revised terms of reference are:

    "To review and make recommendations on the use by the Garda Síochána of the resources available to it, with the objective of achieving and maintaining the highest levels of efficiency and effectiveness in its operation and administration.The review shall encompass all aspects of the operation and administration of the Garda Síochána, including –

    • the structure, organisation and staffing of the Garda Síochána;
    • the deployment of members and civilian staff to relevant and appropriate roles;”

    On 28 February 2014, Chief Inspector Robert K Olson forwarded the Garda Síochána Inspectorate's ninth report entitled 'The Fixed Charge Processing System: A 21st Century Strategy' to the Minister for Justice and Equality. The report is now available on 'Published Reports' page of this website.
